Lord Of The Rings Questions...

Making larger roles for the female characters in the film.

When the book was written females weren't seen as the sort of characters in books ect, So if they did have a role in the script, it would only be small.
That's why they had to make larger roles in the film for female characters.

Taking out (omitting) certain characters in the film.

Some characters were taken out to cut the film time down and to keep up the pace.
It also helps with other character progression.

Writing an exposition (what has happened before the film starts) scene for the beginning of the film.

They found it difficult to do and also made up scenes that weren't in the book Lots of things were left out as they didn't allow the story to progress along.
It shows the ring being lost by an earlier king.

Working with the actors as characters to create some parts of the script.

The actors began to have a kind of alter ego with the characters and used this to think of ideas which would contribute to the final screenplay.
All of the actors would think of something and write it down to send to the screenplay, some would be used and some wouldn't.
Actors asked to input ideas about the film and what they thought there character would be like.
